Camp Gan Israel – A Great Success!

While most day camps don't provide lunches and snacks, Camp Gan Israel started a new 'Kosher Lunches & Snacks' program this summer, IMG_0256.jpgwhich served daily lunches and snacks to the children. A parent commented "It's a great idea! As a parent of two, it was very helpful not to have to worry about preparing lunch and snack every morning".

Camp Gan Israel, a project of Chabad Lubavitch Youth Centre, started on June 30th and ran through August 1st. Campers were given an opportunity to engage with other kids and learn about their Jewish heritage, in a wide array of activities including games, sports, swimming, fun contests, nature hikes and various outings.

A parent commented "The staff at Gan Israel were excellent. The love to the children and the Jewish atmosphere was amazing. The ganisrael.ca website is great. It has a very professional interface and everything I needed for camp was available online!"

The camp ran from 9 AM to 3:30 PM with extended care available from 8 AM to 5 PM and served children ages 3-12, regardless of their Jewish affiliation.

The Science Centre, roller-skating, the Calgary Zoo, Let's play, Callaway park and Heritage park are just a few of the many field trips that Gan Izzy campers enjoyed. Campers learned about Judaism through arts & crafts, creative games and even the bunk names! The bunk names and sessions were dedicated to different themes in Jewish tradition. Like Our Holy Land-Israel, Jewish Identity, Kosher, Jewish Holidays, Moshiach, Shabbos and more.  The theme of this summer was 'Kids CAN Do It' - Kids have the ability to make a difference through doing acts of goodness and kindness. Gan Israel's activities create more than just a fun day for the kids; it teaches them good values and about our Jewish heritage.

Led by Chabad students from around the world, including Costa-Rica, Michigan, and Eastern Canada this year; our staff is known for their love and special care to each and every child. Many counselors return year after year thereby ensuring continuity of programs. The counselors work as a team, with full devotion and dedication to the camp. They go way beyond their duties. Many of the counselors will ultimately train as educators. In the words of a counselor, "My experience in Gan Israel of Calgary is something I will always treasure and never forget. I gained so much in so many ways and I will definitely keep in touch with my campers!"

The camp was very successful. The staff feels their work provided children with a fun, but also meaningful and unforgetful summer experience.

Parents and campers are already asking about the Camp Gan Israel Winter and Spring Camps that will be taking place in December and May during the winter and spring brakes.
