At Yachad, we know the importance of making the most of the hours spent at Hebrew school, as well as Hebrew School being an exciting part of your child’s life. With much thought, our unique program was designed to include some of the main principles of our Jewish religion, an attachment to the Land of Israel past and present, as well as fluency in the Hebrew language. All our lessons are multi-sensory, using visual aids, hands-on activities, creative projects, drama and music. The following is an outline of the curriculum we have designed for Calgary Yachad Hebrew School. Please Note: The lessons will be taught in a manner appropriate to the child's level and based on their previous knowledge. The curriculum will be modified accordingly.

Beginner Class
Hebrew Language, Reading, Writing and Comprehesion Through learning centers which will incorporate educational games, songs, worksheets and activities, the children will master the Hebrew alphabet and will be able to recognise the Hebrew letters in and out of order.
The children will learn some basic conversational Hebrew, to be able to converse on a simple level in the Hebrew language. Holidays Before the Jewish holidays, the children will explore the history of the holiday, through discussion, storytelling, and role-play. They will learn traditional as well as modern Jewish songs pertaining to the holiday. The different laws and customs associated with the holiday will become familiar to them through multi-sensory, hands-on activities, real examples, and creative art projects, which will give them a broad knowledge and enthusiasm for the Jewish holidays. Jewish Values Throughout the year, we will be learning about the Mitzvot in a systematic approach. Through an exciting Mitzvot Curriculum the year will be divided so the children will be learning about different Mitzvot they can incorporate into their lives and gain a deeper appreciation of the Torah. Tefillah The children will slowly learn the main morning prayers through singing the traditional melodies, and will participate in the leading of the Davening. As they familiarize themselves with the text, they will add new Tefillos to their repertoire. The concept of Davening as connecting to Hashem will be emphasized.
The Land of Israel The children will learn about the land Hashem gave us, the importance of the Land as well as an appreciation for the land. The children will be instilled with a love and attachment to our Holy Land. The children will be exposed to pictures, films, games, projects and songs about the land. Intermediate Level
Hebrew Language, Reading, Writing and Comprehesion
The children will continue with their Hebrew reading skills, and become fluent Hebrew readers. The class will be set up in centers, using different learning tools, and the children will be learning reading, writing and Hebrew language in different groups, according to their level.
The children will build on their basic Hebrew skills to further their fluency in the Hebrew language, read simple Hebrew sentences, to converse on a basic Hebrew level and read and follow the basic Morning Prayer. Holidays
Before the major Jewish Holidays, the children will learn the customs and traditions, and build on the knowledge they have already, to familiarize them with the Holiday. The emphasis will be on the Holidays relevance to our lives today and through hands-on learning the Holidays will become alive to the children.
Jewish Values
Throughout the year, we will be learning about the Mitzvot in a systematic approach. Through an exciting Mitzvot Curriculum the year will be divided so the children will be learning about different Mitzvot they can incorporate into their lives and gain a deeper appreciation of the Torah.
Tefillah
The children will build on the Tefillot they already know and slowly add more prayers. They will learn about the meaning of the prayers they are saying and learn the importance of prayer.
The Land of Israel
The children will learn about the land Hashem gave us, the importance of the Land as well as an appreciation for the land. The children will be instilled with a love and attachment to our Holy Land. The children will be exposed to pictures, films, games, projects and songs about the land.
Advanced Level
Chumash Study in the Original Hebrew Text The children will follow the Parshah of the week, and focus on some of the main topics and Mitzvot discussed in the Parshah. An emphasis will be on learning from the Chumash text, and building Chumash learning skills. The class will enable the children to learn how to learn Chumash, and build their Chumash vocabulary. . This class will also include some major Chumash projects which the children will be eager to participate in. Holidays Before the major Jewish Holidays, the children will focus on important lessons about the Holidays. This class will include activities and practical applications about the Holidays as well as unique projects which the children will work on.Mitzvot The children will learn about specific Mitzvot and how they apply to their lives. Through discussion, exciting projects and activities they will gain a deeper understanding of the Torah and the Mitzvot of Hashem.
Tefillah
The children will say Tefillot from the Siddur, and add on more Tefillot as they learn the meaning of them. The children will gain an appreciation of davening to Hashem, and the importance of prayer.
