About Our Speaker: Rabbi Yoseph Y. Groner

DSC_0005.JPGRabbi Yossi Groner is founder and leader of Chabad of the Carolinas, with its headquarters in Charlotte. He and his wife Mariashi were sent as the first Chabad emissaries to the Carolinas by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in the summer of 1980. He is the senior Rabbi and spiritual leader of Congregation Ohr HaTorah, (located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The synagogue is a Jewish Orthodox congregation serving the Charlotte area). Rabbi Groner was ordained with a rabbinic degree in Talmudic studies at the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva in New York.

Rabbi Groner is director of the Chabad of Charlotte, a Jewish educational resource and outreach center for the Charlotte metro area. This includes weekly lectures on the Bible, Talmud and Kabbalah. The center is an affiliate of the International Chabad-Lubavitch movement, with its headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. Rabbi Groner leads the highly acclaimed Charlotte Jewish Learning Institute, which provides professional courses on Jewish law, ethics and mysticism. Many of its Jewish law courses are accredited by the North Carolina Bar for the CLE credits for attorneys.

He is the Co-founder alongside his wife, Mariashi, of the Charlotte Jewish Day School and The Jewish Preschool on Sardis. The schools have an enrollment of about 200 students.

Chabad of Charlotte also runs a very successful Chapter of the Friendship Circle, a big part of the Charlotte Friendship Circle is a boutique thrift store run by young adults with special needs.

Rabbi Groner is the Father of Rabbi Bez Tzion & Rabbi Mendel directors of Friendship Circle International.

Rabbi Groner established over 20 additional Chabad centers in the Carolinas with over 40 Chabad Rabbinic couples serving as emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

Rabbi Groner serves on the International board of Agudat Chassidei Chabad, a Chabad umbrella organization, and on Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, the International Education Board of Chabad.

Rabbi Groner and his wife Mariashi, have been blessed with ten children, (9 of which were born in Charlotte) and 27 grandchildren.
