The Bat Mitzvah Club is designed for Jewish girls ages 11 to 13 who have recently celebrated or will soon celebrate their Bat Mitzvah. A Jewish girl’s Bat Mitzvah birthday reflects an important turning point in her life. The club emphasizes that a Bat Mitzvah is a process, rather than a self-contained event that transpires in one day and then ends.

The Bat Mitzvah Club’s program serves to challenge and stimulate its members as they undergo profound physical, emotional, and intellectual changes. The club serves as a forum for discussion, learning and discovery as to the true meaning of being a Bat Mitzvah. Club members are encouraged to learn more about this unique time in their lives and to gain new perspectives on their positions as females, adults, and Jews.

During the course of the year we will discuss the concept of a soul and how young Jewish women can use theirs to connect to inspirational women from the Torah. Rather than treat those lessons as typical Bible-study sessions, the girls learn about our matriarchs and more through a modern lens with current, real-world examples they can relate to. We will learn and become more fluent with some of the prayers and rituals. The girls will feel good about their ability to understand and appreciate the rituals and meaning of prayers both at home and in synagogue.

We will also go through the Jewish calendar and learn about each holiday as it approaches, we will cover issues like, Shabbat, the Jewish lifecycle, Israel – (the holy land), Judaism in modern society, peer pressure and many other interesting topics. These lessons will be incorporated into activities & workshops connected with what is being learned. Activities include scrap booking, challah baking, food decorating, field trips, guest speakers, Shabbaton sleepovers, and outreach in the Jewish community.

As the club members share their interests, dreams, goals, hopes, and experiences at this crucial turning point in their lives, they develop friendships and a sense of unity with other Jewish girls their age. They learn about the positive contributions they can make to themselves, their families, and to the world. Bat Mitzvah Club members face the future as committed, knowledgeable, and confident Jewish women who are proud of their unique identities. The Bat Mitzvah Club represents a most worthwhile investment of your daughter’s extracurricular time. |
